Lorne Gara appointed chair of CSA Z463 committee

September 7, 2021 – Lorne Gara, vice-president, Technical Services, for Shermco Industries has been appointed chair of the committee for CSA Z463 “Maintenance of electrical systems”.*

A protection and control specialist in the industrial and utility markets, Gara has 24 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, reports Shermco, performing acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance testing and troubleshooting across North America.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) graduate is an electrical engineering technologist, Red Seal electrician, journeyman power systems electrician, and a Level 4 Tech of the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA).

Gara is extensively involved in electrical standards development, participating in several NETA, IEEE and CSA Group committees and boards.

* “This Standard specifies basic requirements on maintenance of electrical systems based on principles of loss control and safety management systems,” notes CSA Group. “It also provides guidance on the selection of reference standards, equipment-specific maintenance procedures, and the assessment of electrical equipment to verify correct function.”
